SQLite or PostgreSQL
Start with built-in SQLite and move to PostgreSQL for production, with no Redis or other services.
What it is
Embedded SQLite is the default for evaluation and single servers; PostgreSQL is the production database. Admin shows which backend is in force.

Start with zero database setup, then move to the database your team already backs up and monitors.
How it works
- No Redis or TimescaleDB required
- Versioned, forward-only migrations serialized across replicas with an advisory lock
- JANUS_DB_MAX_CONNS caps each replica's pool (default 25)
