What it is

Every edition installs from offline archives and verifies its signed license with no network access. Setting JANUS_OFFLINE=true turns off update checks, license sync and personal subscriptions, while your configured providers keep working.

Why you want it

Defense, healthcare and research networks cannot call home. Janus licenses and runs fully offline.

An air-gapped network contains the Janus gateway, local models on your own GPUs and the people who use them. The license file is checked with a public key built into the binary, so no connection to the internet or to Torvanis is ever needed. How it works

  • License verified with Ed25519 public keys embedded in the binary
  • Offline keys carry no sync URL
  • Perpetual keys run every release built on or before their maintenance date; newer builds refuse the key before migrating
